After several years of hiatus, the Rwanda Shima Imana gospel crusade is making a significant return, providing Rwandans from all faiths with an opportunity to gather and express their gratitude for the peace and stability restored in Rwanda over the past 30 years. This year, the event holds special meaning as it coincides with the 30th anniversary of the end of the Genocide against the Tutsi and the liberation of Rwanda.
Rwanda’s journey since 1994 has been one of resilience and remarkable transformation. Once a nation where many were forced to live as refugees scattered across the globe, Rwanda has risen from its tragic past. Today, it stands tall on the international stage, with every Rwandan taking pride in the nation’s progress and the strong unity that has been built.
For many Rwandans, including those living abroad, this progress is a reason to celebrate and give thanks. Rwandan Christians in the diaspora are among those joining in the spirit of gratitude.
Iwacu Times had the opportunity to interview some church leaders based in Europe, who shared their reflections on the significance of Rwanda Shima Imana.
Pastor Vincent Habimana, from the Pentecostal Church (ADEPR) in Namur, Belgium, expressed his deep appreciation:
“Thirty years after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi was stopped, we Rwandans express our deep gratitude to God for the peace and security we now enjoy. Thanks to the good leadership, we’ve seen positive changes in various areas, including the economy, social relationships, health, education, and many other sectors. As members of the diaspora, we join Rwandans worldwide in giving thanks to God, and we commit to working together to preserve and sustain the progress that has been achieved. May Rwanda continue to shine!”
From Poland, Pastor Steven Ntwari of Rwanda Christian Fellowship invited all to join the celebrations:
“After the Genocide against the Tutsi and 30 years of liberation, we Rwandans give thanks to God for all He has done for us. In this spirit of gratitude, I invite you all to the Rwanda Shima Imana event, which will take place on September 29, 2024, at Amahoro Stadium. May we come together to give thanks and praise!”
Jesca Umuhire, a Rwandan student in Sweden, shared how God’s grace has helped her and her country:
“I am grateful for what God has done for my country. I live stably abroad, but I remember there was a time 30 years ago when Rwandans could not be proud of being called Rwandans. Now, because God saved our country and gave us strong and good leaders, we are proud of our nation.”
The Rwanda Shima Imana crusade serves as a powerful reminder of how far Rwanda has come in its journey to peace and healing. Rwandans, both at home and abroad, join hands in gratitude, acknowledging the work of God in restoring their nation. The event encourages unity and reflects the shared commitment of the Rwandan diaspora to contribute to the ongoing development and prosperity of their homeland.
