Rwandans living in Poland are not only there for studying and working but also for protecting and promoting their cultural identity. Ballet Icyeza Polska, has been successful in bringing Rwanda abroad through traditional dance. This group of young men and women has been performing at various national and international events, such as the SHOM Charity Bazaar and different festivals.
Recently, Polish Television (TVP) invited Ballet Icyeza Polska to perform on the popular TV show “Pytanie na śniadanie.” This was a significant opportunity for them to showcase their talent and share their experiences. They also explained why they chose to bring their culture from Rwanda to Poland.
Bwami Arnold, the president of Ballet Icyeza Polska, expressed his pride in being invited by TVP. He said, “Being invited by Polish Television to showcase our talent to the people of Poland and the wider world is a great opportunity for us. It allows people to learn about Ballet Icyeza, our country’s Culture and our identity. Years ago, when someone searched ”Rwanda” on Google, they would mostly find negative news. But now, after 30 years, the world sees a different Rwandan, the development and good leadership. We are proud to be Rwandans.”
When asked why they chose Poland as their destination, the group mentioned that Poland is a developing country with many opportunities in various sectors. They also highlighted the strong ties between Poland and Rwanda.
Through their performances across Poland, Ballet Icyeza Polska not only entertains but also educates Polish people about Rwandan culture. This is a wonderful way for them to connect with others and promote their heritage.
