Members of the Rwanda Pig Breeders Association (RPFA) actively participated in the Agriculture and Livestock Exhibition (Foire de Libramont-2024) held from July 26 to 29 in Florenville, Luxembourg Province, Belgium.
This marked the third consecutive year that Rwandan pig farmers joined the annual exhibition, which serves as a pivotal gathering for farmers, breeders, and agricultural experts from across Europe. The event is renowned for showcasing advancements in agriculture, livestock, and agricultural products.
Jean Claude Shirimpumu, representing the Rwanda Pig Farmers Association and serving as Director of Agribusiness Farm Ltd, highlighted the significant insights gained by the Rwandan participants. He emphasized their keen interest in learning advanced feeding techniques for pigs and optimizing farm management practices to enhance production efficiency.
“In particular, we’ve learned optimal meat preservation methods using freezers,” Shirimpumu remarked. He also shared insights on Rwanda’s innovative use of drone technology for sperm distribution, which garnered surprise and admiration among international attendees.
“Our goal is to work diligently, acquire knowledge, and disseminate it effectively,” he added.The Rwandan delegation included notable breeders such as Brigitte Mukandoha from Bugesera District, Umuhoza Rango from Rusizi District focusing on pork production expansion, Bavugamenshi Jonas from Rwamagana District, and Jean Marie Nzabakurana from Musanze District.
